The Problem
-
The university is renowned for its rapid rise in international ranking in research and development. The expansion of academic advancement means spaces need to be dynamically developed to suit the needs.
-
The main section of the campus was designed in the early 1990s based on the then standards for meeting rooms, seminar rooms, and event spaces. However, the digitalisation in the 2000s means many spaces need to be redefined and re-purposed for the growing needs. The question is: how can we accurately measure the utilisation to have a set of data to plan the campus development?

The Solution
-
Among competition, PointGrab has been chosen as an all-in-one IoT sensing solution to measure accurate space utilisation across the campus. Live data collected over the course of an academic year provide the senior management the right set of data to re-design and re-purpose spaces.

The Result
-
The analytics data, which are still being collected and analysed continually, result in under-utilized spaced being turned into more productive spaces, large meeting rooms into more smaller huddle rooms, and creating shared spaces for departments that were otherwise managed individually
